SCAMWATCH: Protecting Vulnerable Iowans from Fraudsters
I’m pleased to invite you to attend ‘SCAMWATCH: Protecting Vulnerable Iowans from Fraudsters’ with special guest, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller.
While AG Miller and I are working hard to crack down on fraudsters, unfortunately, veterans and seniors remain particularly vulnerable to unscrupulous lenders. I’m hosting an event to help you better protect yourself from fraudulent lending. Veterans and members of our senior community are encouraged to attend.
You will hear from experts in the field who will present on best practices for Iowans to protect themselves from fraudulent schemes, particularly during tax season. Following the presentation, participants will be invited to ask specific questions of the experts.
I’m pleased that the U.S. House of Representatives passed my bipartisan Preventing Crimes Against Veterans Act to crack down on criminals who attempt to defraud veterans. In the AG’s office, Mr. Miller has been a leader in protecting consumers, particularly veterans and seniors. The Consumer Protection Division in his office has helped hundreds of thousands of Iowans with complaints about wide-ranging topics, including improper debt collection practices, telemarketing fraud and abuse, charity fraud, predatory lending, mortgage, and vehicle complaints.
