A major infrastructure bill passed the U.S. House Wednesday that would also help mobile homeowners in Iowa.

Congresswoman Cindy Axne amended the legislation to allow residents to apply for grants to buy their mobile home parks.

This comes after some Waukee residents were in a pinch when Havenpark Capital purchased Midwest Country Estates and planned to raise rents by 70%.

"So, it's through a HUD grant program, residents could apply to take out a grant for one million dollars for property. Folks could work together, or nonprofits could step in and do that as well," Axne said.

Axne says the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill will also expand the internet in rural Iowa. The bill now moves on to the Senate.
