Newsletter: Military Service Applications
As a Member of Congress, one of my most important responsibilities is to nominate constituents to our prestigious military academies. I am now accepting applications to nominate constituents between the ages of 17-22 to four U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
These institutions provide college-aged Americans with a tuition-free, four-year undergraduate education and prepare them to be officers of some of our nation's uniformed services. Upon graduation, service academy graduates are commissioned as officers in the active or reserve components of the military or merchant marine for a minimum of five years.
Iowans interested must apply through the Academy directly and meet the minimum standards for admission, including medical, physical and academic qualifications. Then, I have the honor and privilege to nominate individuals who are ready to serve.
The deadline to submit an application is October 16. For more information, or to request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, constituents must complete the form available here.
The young men and women selected to attend these service academies will learn the values and traditions of their chosen branch, receive a world-class education, and become military officers and future leaders of our nation. Serving in our nation’s military takes courage, honor, and commitment. I know Iowa’s young men and women will continue the strong tradition of service.
