Axne breaks with Democrats, demands tariff aid in funding bill
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) urged House Democratic Leadership to include extensions for the commodity credit corporation in the continuing resolution (CR) in order to ensure the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) can continue Market Facilitation Program (MFP) payments to struggling farmers. The Washington Post reported that House Democrats are attempting to block President Trump’s farm bailout program in the CR that the House is expected to vote on later this week.

Legislation protects and expands access to affordable housing options in rural communities
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, praised unanimous House passage of legislation to protect and expand access to affordable rental housing options in rural communities. The Strategy and Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act, co-sponsored by Rep. Axne, will restructure an existing U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) rural housing program in order to prevent the displacement of thousands of Americans in rural communities.

Axne requested a specific timeline of events in order to help ensure that Army Corp has the proper procedures in place to ensure the public receives timely information to mitigate damages in future natural disasters.

Axne calls for increased transparency in biofuel waiver process following unprecedented use of small refinery exemptions for large or unqualified refineries
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, called for a federal investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) expansion of refinery exemptions from blending requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). In a letter sent today to Charles J. Sheehan, Acting Inspector General (IG) of the EPA, Rep. Axne requested that the IG conduct an investigation into the highly questionable decision-making and misuse of the EPA’s “small refinery exemption” (SRE) authority to benefit large or unqualified companies that may be exerting an undue amount of influence over the regulatory process.

DES MOINES – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced she has signed onto three pieces of legislation that would expand career education for students of all ages. The School to Career Pathways Act, the START Career Pathways Act, and the Making Education Affordable & Accessible Act would provide funding for career pathways programs in K-12 schools, expand Pell Grants to job training programs, and establish funding for dual enrollment programs with an emphasis on supporting rural communities, respectively.
