Legislation preserves and expands access to affordable housing options in rural communities
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, praised unanimous committee passage of legislation that will help ensure Iowans in rural communities have access to affordable rental housing options. The Strategy and Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act, co-sponsored by Rep. Axne, will strengthen U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) programs that preserve and expand affordable housing options in rural communities. The legislation passed out of the House Financial Services Committee yesterday and now heads to the House floor.

Letter calls attention to rapid spread of African swine fever in Europe and Asia, urges CBP to prioritize efforts to prevent the introduction of the devastating disease in U.S.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Reps. Cindy Axne (D-IA-03) and Rep. James Baird (R-IN-04) urged U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to prioritize agricultural inspections to prevent an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) among domestic swine herds. In a letter sent to Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan, the Representatives called attention to the rapid spread of ASF in Europe and Asia and highlighted the threat the disease poses to American hogs and our pork industry.

Currently, publicly-traded companies are not required to list where their employees are located, making it easy for corporations to hide when they ship American jobs overseas.

Legislation would delay enforcement of burdensome government regulations on small rural hospitals
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Reps. Cindy Axne (D-IA-03) and Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) introduced bipartisan legislation to provide relief to rural hospitals by delaying enforcement of burdensome regulations that limit the ability of Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), or rural hospitals, to provide quality care. The legislation postpones implementation of “direct supervision” – or the requirement that a physician or nonphysician practitioner be physically present – for outpatient therapeutic services at rural hospitals until 2021.
