Rep. Axne Announces Over $11,000,000 for Third District Community Health Centers to Expand COVID-19 Vaccine Access
Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced that three Community Health Centers in Iowa’s Third Congressional District will receive a total of $11,483,875 in American Rescue Plan funds to expand their COVID-19 vaccination and treatment operations.
The awards coming to central and southwest Iowa are part of the American Rescue Plan’s investments to expand access to vaccines in underserved communities. In total, the American Rescue Plan is bringing $48,082,125 to support 14 health centers across Iowa.
“Iowa’s community health centers play a critical role in responding to COVID-19 in our communities and are integral to getting all Iowa adults vaccinated against this deadly virus,” said Rep. Axne. “This $11 million investment in central and southwest Iowa, part of a nearly $50 million for Iowa’s frontline health centers, will ensure Iowans in underserved areas aren’t left out of our efforts to get shots in arms and ensure we can move swiftly to put this crisis behind us.”
The three health centers in Iowa’s Congressional Third District receiving funds are:
- All Care Health Center in Council Bluffs, receiving $1,612,125
- Primary Health Care, Inc. in Des Moines, receiving $8,875,375
- Proteus, Inc. in Des Moines, receiving $996,375
The health centers can use the funding to expand COVID-19 vaccinations, testing and treatment for vulnerable populations; deliver preventive and primary health care services to people at higher risk for COVID-19; and expand health centers’ operational capacity during the pandemic and beyond, including modifying and improving physical infrastructure and adding mobile units.
