Rep. Axne Praises $6,300,000 Award to Fight Coronavirus in Iowa from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) praised the award of $6,347,828 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reinforce Iowa’s state and local efforts to combat the spread and impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
“We moved quickly last week to get this critical funding signed into law, and I’m pleased to see millions of it already coming to Iowa to help our local public health officials who are on the ground tackling challenges of this disease,” said Rep. Axne. “As this funding bolsters Iowa’s prevention and treatment efforts, I will be continuing to fight in Washington for additional legislation that will ensure cost-free access to testing, emergency paid sick leave, and resources to minimize the effects of this outbreak on our families and our economy.”
The award comes after President Trump signed bipartisan legislation that Rep. Axne helped pass last week to allocate billions of dollars to support local preparedness efforts – including $2.2 billion specifically for public health funding for prevention, preparedness, and response.
The bill also included funding to support the development of improved testing and treatment and authorization for nearly $7 billion in Small Business Administration (SBA) loans for impacted small businesses and nonprofits.
Rep. Axne’s website includes prevention recommendations for any Iowans who want updates about novel coronavirus, and is encouraging anyone with questions to visit the websites for the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
