Rep. Axne Statement on Need for COVID-19 Relief Vote
Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) issued the following statement on the continued stalemate over the next coronavirus (COVID-19) relief package:
“In nine days, thousands of my constituents and millions of Americans will face what has become the hardest day of the month for them – the day their rent is due.
Without protections against evictions, a sustainable extension of the CARES Act’s unemployment benefits, sufficient testing capacity, and a real strategy to combat the virus, the economic crisis will only deepen. We’ve needed additional action for weeks – and I’m deeply frustrated that another week is ending without a deal on additional aid.
The American people are again counting on their representatives to reach an agreement. We must draw on the same bipartisan urgency we used to pass critical aid in the early days of this pandemic. The families and farmers, students and teachers, businessowners and frontline workers, and communities I serve cannot afford for us to not reach a deal.”
