“An Opportunity” will be displayed in U.S. Capitol for one year
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced that a charcoal drawing entitled “An Opportunity” was selected to represent Iowa’s Third Congressional District in the 2019 Congressional Art Contest. The drawing was created by Wyatt Bailey, a junior at Bondurant-Farrar High School in Bondurant, Iowa. Congresswoman Axne spoke with Wyatt this morning by phone to let him know that had won.

Members urge the EPA to reverse expansion of biofuel waivers for large or unqualified refiners
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Reps. Cindy Axne (D-IA-03) and Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) led a bipartisan group of 35 Representatives in urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to stop issuing Small Refinery Exemptions (SREs) for large or unqualified refiners under the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) program. In a letter sent to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, the Members highlighted that the expansion of biofuel waivers hurts farmers who rely on demand for corn-based ethanol and other biofuels and has increased our dependence on foreign oil.

Legislation would require the SEC to study the unique challenges rural entrepreneurs face in obtaining access capital
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, and a bipartisan group of House colleagues introduced legislation to help rural entrepreneurs and small business owners access capital. The Expanding Access to Rural Job Creators Act would require the Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation (OASB) at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) identify and report on the problems rural entrepreneurs face in obtaining accessing capital. In addition to Rep. Axne, U.S. Reps. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Chris Pappas (D-NH), Alex Mooney (R-WV), Denver Riggleman (R-VA), and John Rose (R-TN) are also original co-sponsors of this legislation. A Senate companion version of this bill has been introduced by U.S. Senators Doug Jones (D-AL) and John Kennedy (R-LA).
